Saharanpur. Food is very essential for the human body. To live life, we eat food at three main times every day – breakfast in the morning, lunch in the afternoon and dinner in the evening. A person eats different types of food according to his taste and preference. But, according to Ayurveda, by eating food at the right time and in the right quantity, a person remains healthy, lives a long life and remains protected from diseases.

Importance of diet, sleep and celibacy in Ayurveda
According to Ayurveda, the human body rests on three main pillars – diet, sleep and celibacy. It means:
1) Eating at the right time when hungry.
2) Sleeping when you feel sleepy.
3) To follow celibacy.
If a person eats excessive food as per his wish or when he is not hungry, then it gives rise to various diseases in the body.

Health benefits of eating food at the right time
Dr. Harsh (B.A.M.S., M.D.) of Ayas Ayurvedic Hospital explains that eating food at the right time and in the right quantity provides proper nutrition to the body and keeps the immunity strong. In Ayurveda, it is recommended to have breakfast at 8:00 am, lunch at 1:00 pm, dinner at 8:00 pm and sleep at 10:00 pm. With this timing the body remains healthy and longevity is possible.

Harmful effects of wrong food and overeating
If a person overeats even when he is not hungry or overeats food already eaten (Adyasana), toxins build up in the body and various diseases arise. Overeating increases obesity and weakens the body’s immunity.

Body’s biological clock and energy needs
According to Dr. Harsh, there is a biological clock in our body, which tells us about our hunger and need for energy. If we do not eat food on time, the metals of the body are not digested properly and weakness occurs. Therefore, eating food at the right time is very important for health and longevity.
