Pakistan Man Asif Merchant News: Pakistani Asif Merchant has been found guilty in the case of conspiracy to assassinate Donald Trump in America. A federal court in America has convicted Pakistani citizen Asif Merchant in the case of terrorism and ‘murder for hire’. According to the American court, Pakistani terrorist Asif Merchant had conspired to kill Donald Trump at the behest of Iran.
How Asif Merchant was exposed
Asif Merchant had also given him an advance of $5,000 to kill an American politician or government official. According to officials, his plan was to order the murder after leaving America. However, the FBI and other agencies foiled this conspiracy in time and he was arrested in July 2024. Now in this case the merchant can be punished up to life imprisonment.
Who is Asif Merchant?
According to the US, Pakistani Asif Merchant started working for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Pakistan in late 2022 or early 2023, where he was trained in espionage-related methods. This also included counter-surveillance (technique to avoid surveillance). Later in 2023, he was sent to America so that he could search for people who could be recruited for the IRGC and who could live and work in America. Merchant admitted in the court that he knew that IRGC was a declared terrorist organization. During this period, he also went to Iran several times to meet his IRGC handlers.
What did Asif tell?
Asif Merchant told that in 2024 he was again sent to America with a new mission. His job was to recruit Mafia people to steal documents, organize protests, and arrange for the assassination of one of three specific US government officials or politicians. For this purpose, he contacted one of his acquaintances in New York, Nadeem Ali, whom he considered helpful in his conspiracy. But Nadeem Ali gave this information to the law enforcement agencies and he became their confidential source.
In early June, Merchant met Ali in New York and told him about the assassination plot. He told Ali that he had an opportunity for him and made a finger gun gesture with his hand, indicating that the task was related to someone’s murder. Merchant said that the people who will be targeted will be in America only. He asked Ali to arrange a meeting with people whom the merchant could hire for these tasks. Merchant explained that his plan involved several criminal activities:
1. Stealing documents or USB drives from a target’s home,
2. Organizing a protest
3. And killing any politician or government official.
Who was Ali, what happened?
During that meeting, Merchant also began discussing possible killing methods and asked Ali how he might kill the target under different circumstances. He said that there will be tight security around the person who will be targeted. Merchant said that the murder would be carried out after he left America and that he would contact Ali from abroad through code words. Ali asked if he had spoken to his “party” or contact person. Merchant replied that he had spoken and that he had been asked to finalize the plan and leave for America. Merchant later revealed that this “party” was his IRGC handler.
Betrayed by American agent
In mid-June, Merchant met in New York with the alleged betel nut killers, who were actually undercover officers of American law enforcement agencies. Merchant told them he wanted three tasks: stealing documents, organizing protests at political rallies and killing a “political figure”. He said that he would give instructions on who to kill after leaving America. During this time, Merchant also kept searching for information about the locations of political rallies on the Internet and kept sending reports related to the security arrangements there to his IRGC handler.
