Ways to Detox Your Body Naturally: The festival of Holi brings with it colors of happiness and a lot of dishes. The fun of Holi seems incomplete without Gujhiya, Mathri, Dahi-Bhalla and various types of sweets. On Holi, in the name of taste, we often eat more than our appetite, due to which the amount of saturated fat, refined sugar and food color increases in the body. The lethargy, heaviness, constipation and skin rashes felt after the festival are signs that toxins have accumulated in your body. Dietician believes that it is important to detox the body after the festival. Detoxing properly not only improves your metabolism but also gives relief to the digestive system.
Kamini Sinha, senior dietitian of Diet Mantra Clinic, Noida told News18. The first rule of the detox process is to hydrate the body. Start the day with lukewarm water and lemon. Squeeze half a lemon in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. Vitamin C and antioxidants present in lemon activate the liver, which helps in removing toxic substances from the body. It cleanses the digestive system and helps in balancing the pH level of the body. Make sure to drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water throughout the day, so that the kidneys can function properly.
According to experts, excessive consumption of flour and sugar during festivals slows down digestion. To correct this, increase the amount of fiber in your diet. Consume whole grains like oats, porridge, brown rice and sprouted grains. Apart from this, include fruits like papaya, apple and watermelon in your diet. Papaya contains an enzyme called papain, which helps in digesting heavy food. Fiber not only cleans the intestines but also makes you feel energetic for a long time. When the body gets detoxed, the energy level also increases.
The dietitian told that people consume a lot of sweet thandai and cold drinks during the festival. In such a situation, to detox the body from these things, drink green tea without sugar twice a day, which helps in speeding up the metabolism. Apart from this, you can prepare detox water at home. Put cucumber, mint and ginger pieces in a bottle of water, leave it overnight and consume it the next day. Ginger and mint reduce stomach inflammation and are effective in soothing digestive irritation. Drinking this detox water can reset your digestive system.
Kamini Sinha told that during detox, completely stay away from fried food, caffeine and processed food for at least 2-3 days. Dinner should be very light and should be eaten at least 3 hours before sleeping. Moong dal khichdi, pumpkin soup or boiled vegetables are the best options. By eating light food, your digestive organs do not have to work as hard and are able to heal themselves.
Due to excessive consumption of junk food and sugar, the good bacteria of the intestines become unbalanced. To cure this, consumption of probiotics is very important. Have a bowl of fresh curd or homemade buttermilk in lunch. Drinking buttermilk mixed with roasted cumin and black salt eliminates the acidity of the stomach and provides coolness to the digestive system. This is the simplest and natural way to make the intestines healthy again. To detoxify the body, food alone is not enough, but adequate rest and light physical activity is also necessary. During deep sleep the body repairs its cells and filters out toxins. Toxins are also removed from the body through physical activity.
