High temperature in summer badly affects the digestive system.
Health Tips for Summer Season: Summer season is very challenging for health. People are in bad condition due to high temperature and scorching sun. Temperature has a direct impact on our health. You must have often noticed that stomach problems increase during the summer season. Many people face problems like vomiting, diarrhea, acidity, food poisoning and stomach pain. According to health experts, rising temperature directly affects the internal balance and digestive system of our body. In summer, our digestion becomes slow, due to which the digestive system has to work harder to digest food. Let us understand from the doctor what is the relation between heat and stomach health.
Dr. Anil Arora, Chairman of the Gastro Department of Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi told News18. The biggest reason for stomach upset in summer is the rapid growth of bacteria and viruses. High temperature and humidity create a favorable environment for the growth of harmful bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli. In this season, food kept outside spoils very quickly. If such contaminated food or contaminated water is consumed, it directly causes gastroenteritis or food poisoning. This is the reason why it is advisable to eat fresh food in summer.
The doctor told that due to heat the body sweats and due to this, electrolytes also come out along with water. When there is lack of water in the body, its worst effect is on the functioning of the intestines. Due to lack of water the stool becomes hard, which increases the problem of constipation. Apart from this, the body diverts blood flow towards the skin to control its temperature, which reduces the blood supply to the digestive system. This is why flatulence and feeling of heaviness after eating heavy food in summer is a common problem.
According to experts, the body’s metabolism changes in summer, due to which the production of acid in the stomach can increase. Exposure to strong sunlight and heat wave causes heat stroke in the body, which makes the stomach lining sensitive. Apart from this, if spicy food, tea, coffee or cold drinks are consumed in excess, then burning sensation in the chest and sour belching starts. In this season, the intake of foods that keep the body cool like curd, buttermilk, cucumber and watermelon should be increased, so that the pH level of the stomach remains balanced and the effect of heat can be reduced.
According to Doctor Arora, keep the body hydrated to avoid these stomach problems. Drink at least 3 to 4 liters of water throughout the day and include ORS or lemon water in it. Avoid eating open cut fruits and street food from outside, as they have the highest risk of spreading the infection through flies. Always keep food light and easily digestible and instead of eating too much at one go, eat small amounts at short intervals. If you notice symptoms like stomach cramps, repeated vomiting or fever, do not consider it as normal fever and contact a doctor immediately, as it can be a sign of serious infection.
