Recently, a heart-wrenching incident came to light in Tarn Taran, Punjab, in which two brothers and sisters died after eating momos. It was told by the parents that after eating momos and soya chaap on Saturday evening, the children had severe stomach pain and started vomiting. Seeing the condition of both the children worsening, they were given medicine to stop vomiting kept at home and they went to sleep but they died on Sunday morning.

Two similar cases of junk food were also reported from UP a few days ago when parents told that their daughter fell ill due to the habit of eating too much chow mein-burger and then died. In such a situation, the question arises whether junk foods are now becoming deadly? Be it momos or chow mein-burger, can these things kill someone immediately after eating them? Please come Sir Gangaram Hospital in new delhi Dr. Piyush Ranjan, Vice Chairperson of the Institute of Liver Gastroenterology and Pancreatico Biliary Sciences And Dietician Manisha Verma at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital Let us know his opinion from..

Know from experts how harmful are junk foods like momos, burgers etc.?

Dr. Piyush Ranjan says that not much clinical details are known in the case of Momos, hence it is difficult to tell completely what is the real reason for the death of the children, although the reason behind the death may not be food but infection caused by it or something else.

If there is dirt in outside food items and lack of hygiene, then children may get typhoid, in more serious cases, bleeding and intestinal rupture may occur. Eating infected food can cause acute diarrhea, which causes stomach pain and vomiting. Another bad thing that can happen after infection is rapid kidney shutdown. Kidney shutdown can occur within 24 hours or a little more.

Dietician Manisha says that junk food is harmful but it does not seem possible that someone could die just by eating momos. However, some toxic substance present in momos could be the reason behind the death of children. From making to maintenance of momos, if there are any kind of unhygienic conditions, toxic substances or adulteration in it, then it can cause infection, toxic elements can reach the body and then it can lead to death.

Dr. Ranjan further says that even if there is a case of food poisoning, the possibility of death from it seems less. Dehydration also cannot kill so quickly. The period between eating mamos and death of children is so short that there could be a possibility of some kind of infection and kidney shutdown, although these are all possibilities and such things can happen in such cases, but what exactly happened is a matter of investigation.

Manisha says that what was there in those momos can be revealed only after the postmortem report of the children or forensic investigation. Was spoiled meat or chicken used in it, or if there were veg momos, were there any spoiled or unhygienic ingredients found in them or something went wrong during their handling.

Is junk food harmful?
Dietician Manisha says, however, junk food is very harmful for health and eating it for a long time causes great harm to the body. The biggest thing is that you do not know how they have been made, how they have been kept, how much cleanliness has or has not been maintained, what kind of water has been used, whether infected things have come under their influence. Therefore, avoid outside food or buy it only from where you are confident of cleanliness. Do not eat foods found anywhere on the roadside.
