Harish Rana passive euthanasia in AIIMS: For the first time in the history of India, the Supreme Court has given permission for euthanasia to 32-year-old Harish Rana, resident of Ghaziabad. Giving a very important decision, the court has ordered AIIMS New Delhi to admit Harish to the hospital and remove his life support system. Also, instructions have been given that the hospital should be provided all necessary facilities for this process of removing the life support system.

This is the first case when a person has been asked to give passive euthanasia in AIIMS, in such a situation it is very important to know what All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi has to say on this decision of giving passive euthanasia.

Refusing to say anything on the matter of removing the life support system of Harish Rana under passive euthanasia in the hospital, Professor Reema Dada, in-charge of AIIMS PIC Media Cell, only said that the hospital will follow the orders given by the honorable court. In such a situation, it is clear that the process of giving passive euthanasia to Harish Rana will be completed soon in the hospital itself.

Let us tell you that Harish Rana is originally from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. In 2013, while studying at Panjab University, he fell from the fourth floor of a paying guest hostel in Chandigarh. In this accident, he suffered a serious head injury (brain injury) and despite treatment, his condition became very serious and he went into a coma.

After several medical reports showed no improvement in the condition of Harish Rana, who was breathing with the help of machines, his parents had filed a petition in the Supreme Court for passive euthanasia. This petition of the parents of Harish, who was bedridden in permanent vegetative state for the last 13 years, has now been accepted.
