RP Center AIIMS has developed AI software to detect glaucoma.
AI Software for Glaucoma: Regarding cataract or black water, one of the most dangerous eye diseases, RP Center for Ophthalmic Sciences of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi has prepared such an artificial intelligence software, which will detect this serious eye disease just by looking at the photo. After the report received from this screening tool, the patient can be referred to a higher center for treatment.
The most important thing is that this AI software can be used in those primary health centers, CHCs, Arogya Mandirs, those district hospitals and small government hospitals where there are no expensive machines to detect diseases like glaucoma or cataract. Where there are no facilities to adequately check the intraocular pressure of the eyes. In such a situation, this software will help them.
about this Dr. Tanuj Dada, Professor of Ophthalmology and Head of Glaucoma Services at RP Center Said that cataract or glaucoma is called the thief of the eyes, the most important thing is that it does not have any symptoms, in such a situation this disease can be caught only by regular screening of the eyes. That is why people above 40 years of age are advised to get their eyes screened once in two years and those above 60 years of age, once a year, so that hidden diseases can be detected in time.
For eye screening and examination, RP Center and the Government of India have jointly developed an AI software, which will confirm the presence or not of glaucoma just from the photo of the eyes. If a photo taken from any smartphone is uploaded to this software, then the Artificial Intelligence software can tell whether cataract is growing in your optic nerve or is it completely normal.
After finding out if you have glaucoma, you will be referred to an eye hospital and if everything is normal, you will be called for re-examination in a year or two. This technology will be given to primary health care centres, Arogya Mandirs, dispensaries or hospitals in villages and cities, so that where machines are not available to detect glaucoma, they can detect this disease with the help of this software. With this, the entire population, whether living in villages, small towns or cities, will be able to be screened.
