Will everyone now get free liver treatment in ILBS hospital? PIL filed in High Court

Social jurist advocate Ashok Aggarwal has filed a PIL against Delhi Government’s Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, New Delhi. In the PIL, the policy of the hospital has been described as arbitrary and discriminatory and questions have been raised on the fact that everyone is not getting free treatment despite it being a government hospital. The case will be heard on March 18.

PIL has been filed against ILBS Hospital in Delhi High Court.
ILBS Hospital news: A public interest litigation has been filed in the Delhi High Court regarding the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, New Delhi. It has been said in the petition that in this hospital, a quota of 10 per cent beds for admitted patients and 25 per cent of patients in OPD has been fixed for those seeking free treatment under the economically weaker section.
Whereas this super specialty hospital was established by the Delhi government and its ownership is also with the state. Even though it is completely funded and controlled by the government, it has been declared as an autonomous institution and limits on treatment have been set for the economically weaker section, which is not legal in any way.
It has been said in the petition that this hospital was built by the government for specialized treatment of serious liver diseases like hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer etc. and till date the money is given by the government, yet such a policy has been adopted in it which makes it more of a private healthcare institution rather than a government hospital. Where almost 90 percent of the beds are reserved for paying patients. it
Those who filed this PIL Advocate Ashok Aggarwal It is said that it has been clearly stated in the petition that this policy of this government funded hospital is completely arbitrary, discriminatory and a violation of Articles 14 and 21 of the Indian Constitution. This policy is forcibly creating obstacles in the life-saving treatment they receive in hospitals built with public funds. This method of the hospital is also against the orders of the Supreme Court.
Advocate Ashok said that there is no such government hospital anywhere in the country where everything belongs to the government but the patients are treated for money and the poor patients have to suffer. Despite being a government hospital, it is working like a private hospital which raises questions on its validity. He said that this PIL has been listed in the Delhi High Court and it is to be heard on Wednesday, March 18.
