Gudmar Health Benefits: If you are also troubled by sweet cravings and rising blood sugar, then Ayurveda’s ‘Gudmar’ is no less than a boon for you. As is its name, so is its work. This herb is not only considered the enemy of sweetness, but after chewing it you can even forget the taste of sweets. Let us know how this plant, known as Sugar Destroyer, shows its effect in controlling diabetes and increasing the potency of insulin.

Rishikesh: In today’s time, diabetes and the habit of eating too much sweets is becoming a big problem. Many people are looking for natural solutions to control blood sugar and reduce sweet cravings. In such a situation, the name of a particular herb comes up again and again in Ayurveda, which is called Gudmar. From the name itself it can be guessed that it is related to jaggery or sweetness. In traditional medical systems, Gudmar has been considered a medicine that can help in reducing the desire for sweets. For this reason, it is given a special place among the herbs that control sugar.

During a conversation with Local 18, Dr. Rajkumar (Ayush) told that the scientific name of Gudmar is Gymnema Sylvestre and it is found in many parts of India. It has been used in Ayurveda for a long time for the management of diabetes. It is believed that some special elements present in its leaves can help in reducing the absorption of sugar in the body. This is the reason why it is also used in many herbal medicines and supplements. However, it should be taken only in the right quantity and in the right way.

Sugar is the enemy of sweetness.
The most interesting feature of Gudmar is said to be that it can reduce the taste of sweets for some time. Many people have experienced that if jaggery leaves are chewed, then after eating sweets, sweetness is not felt as much. For this reason it is also called “sugar destroyer” or the enemy of sweetness. It is believed that this can reduce the desire to eat sweets and people who are troubled by the habit of eating sweets frequently can get some help from this.

He told that jaggery can be helpful in improving the functioning of insulin in the body. This can help in keeping the blood sugar level balanced. However, it should not be considered an alternative to diabetes medicine. It is considered safer to use any herbal product only with doctor’s advice and proper treatment.
