Summer Season and UTI: Cases of urinary infections increase in summer. According to urologist Dr. Amarendra Pathak, bacteria get a chance to grow due to dehydration and sweat. Because of this the risk of UTI increases. To avoid this infection, it is important to maintain cleanliness and consume adequate amount of fluids.

Dehydration is a major cause of urinary tract infection.
Urinary Tract Infections in Summer: In summer, people sweat a lot and due to this, there is water deficiency in the body. This has a direct impact on our health. During the summer season, many women and men start experiencing burning sensation or pain during urination. When they go to the doctor, they are diagnosed with a urinary tract infection (UTI). It is not that this problem does not occur in winter, but a large number of people struggle with it in summer. Now the question arises whether the scorching sun really increases the risk of urinary tract infection? Let us know the truth about this from the doctor.
Dr. Amarendra Pathak, Vice Chairman of Urology Department of Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi told News18. An increase in the number of UTI patients is seen in summer. The biggest cause of UTI in hot weather is lack of water in the body. When we do not drink enough water, the body produces less urine. The function of urination is not only to flush out waste products, but it also flushes out bacteria present in the urinary tract. When there is less urination, harmful bacteria like E-coli get a chance to stick to the urinary tract and increase their numbers. This is why urine becomes thick and dark yellow in this season, which is the first warning of infection.
According to the doctor, due to excessive sweating in summer, moisture and humidity remain around the private parts. This moisture creates a favorable environment for bacteria to grow. Especially in people working in the field and wearing clothes soaked in sweat for a long time, the risk of urinary tract infection increases manifold. Apart from this, excessive use of public swimming pools in summer also increases the cases of UTI. Most people ignore the symptoms of UTI, but doing so can make the infection severe and the condition can worsen.
According to experts, frequent urge to urinate but very little quantity of urine, sharp pricking or pain during urination, heaviness in the lower abdomen and strong odor from urine are the main signs of UTI. If the infection spreads upward and reaches the kidneys, the patient may feel pain in the lower back and shivering along with fever. In such a situation, you should immediately consult a urologist. One should not be careless regarding UTI.
Doctor Pathak told that to avoid infection, at least 3 to 4 liters of fluid should be consumed daily in summer. Consume water, coconut water, buttermilk daily. Avoid caffeine and alcohol, as they dehydrate the body too much. Take special care of personal hygiene in summer and wear comfortable cotton underwear, so that air circulation is maintained. Apart from this, never stop urination, because the stuck dirt is the root of infection. If there is any kind of problem, one should consult a urologist and get it checked.
