Shubman Gill: Due to poor form, Shubman Gill was not lucky to play in T20 World Cup. Now the Indian ODI captain has fixed his next target.
Indian ODI team captain Shubman Gill said that their team’s main goal now is to win the 2027 ODI World Cup. Speaking at the BCCI’s Naman Awards ceremony on Sunday, he said, winning the World Cup in any format for the country is the biggest dream of cricketers. The Indian team is desperate to get rid of that regret as they came very close in the previous edition and missed out on the title.
India had a great performance in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. The team reached the final by winning 10 consecutive matches in the entire tournament. But eventually lost the title to Australia in the final. That loss is still scarred in the minds of Indian cricketers, said Gill.
Gill said they came very close to the title last time in India. Therefore, he sees it as a great opportunity to get that opportunity again in the next World Cup to be held in South Africa. According to him, the ultimate goal of the team is to win the World Cup for the country and that thought sometimes crosses his mind.
Meanwhile, Indian T20 team captain Suryakumar Yadav said that if he could play a match again, he would choose the 2023 World Cup final. He said, if he could play the final match in Ahmedabad again, he would want to leave the field with a win.
Suryakumar also said that after winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, the confidence in Indian cricket has increased a lot. They want to achieve more success in the future. According to him, in the future, maintaining the T20 World Cup winning streak and winning the gold medal in cricket at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics have also become India’s big goals.
