Kolkata: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made a record-breaking debut in the Indian Premier League at the age of 14 last season, will himself play for Rajasthan Royals in the second edition in 2026. A resident of Samsipur, Bihar, this left-handed batsman made his IPL debut in 2025. He scored 252 runs in seven matches for the Jaipur-based side, with a strike rate of over 200.

After a great batting performance in the first season of IPL, Vaibhav is now hoping to perform well in IPL 2026. At the BCCI awards ceremony in Delhi on Sunday (March 15), he expressed his desire to break Chris Gayle’s record for the highest individual score in the upcoming season.

In the 2013 IPL, Gayle scored an unbeaten 175 off 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Vaibhav wants to surpass this record. When asked which record he would like to break in IPL 2026: Yuvraj Singh’s 6 sixes in 6 balls, the fastest 100 runs, or Chris Gayle’s 175 runs, Vaibhav replied, “Sir, that record of 175 runs.”

In the history of the Indian Premier League, only two batsmen, Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum, have scored more than 150 runs in a single match. Abhishek Sharma holds the record for the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in IPL history. The left-handed batsman from Amritsar scored 141 off 55 balls for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, chasing a target of 246 runs.

During the show, Vaibhav was also asked about his personal goals, and he said that he wants to win a trophy for Rajasthan Royals. Vaibhav said, “This season, my aim is to win a trophy for the team, because it is incredibly important. If we win a trophy for the team, it will reflect on my performance and the performance of the team, which will benefit everyone. This time, my aim is to contribute as much as possible to the team and win a trophy for the team.”

Vaibhav will play for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 under Ryan Parag. Assam right-handed middle-order batsman Ryan Parag has been appointed as the full-time captain of Rajasthan Royals after Sanju Samson joined Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.
