During a conversation with Local 18, Dr. Rajkumar (Ayush) said that food is the main source of energy and nutrition for our body. When we eat food, the process of digestion starts in the body. The digestive juices and enzymes present in the stomach work to break down the food so that the body can get the necessary nutrients. In such a situation, if we drink excessive amount of water immediately after finishing the meal, it can dilute the digestive juices. Due to this, the digestion process may slow down a bit.
Many people also feel that drinking water immediately after eating food causes heaviness or gas problem in the stomach. In some cases, complaints of acidity or indigestion are also seen. However, every person’s body is different, so its effect may also be different. Still, in general it is considered better to avoid drinking too much water immediately after meals. The best way is to drink water about 20 to 30 minutes after eating food. During this time, the initial process of digestion has started in the stomach, due to which the food starts getting digested slowly. When you drink water after some time, it also hydrates the body and does not affect the digestion process much.
