Bankura, Nilanjan Banerjee: Even from a relatively remote district like Bankura, big dreams can be seen. A shining example of this is teenage badminton player Ankit Patra. He had a keen interest in sports since childhood. Along with studies, he is gradually developing himself by practicing regularly. Despite limited facilities, Ankit dreams of playing on the big stage.
He aims to one day make his place at the national level and make Bankura’s name shine. Ankit’s biggest hope in this journey is his father Abhay Patra. He is a teacher by profession. Despite his busy schedule, he is trying his best to fulfill his son’s dream. After finishing school every day, he went from Bankura to Durgapur with his son for badminton practice. After a long journey there, Ankit practiced hard under the supervision of the coach.
This journey and hard work is the main strength of his success. It is often late at night before practice is over. Then the father and son left for home again. It is often 10:30 PM to 11:00 PM to return home. The next day begins the same routine of studying and practicing. Ankit is moving towards his goal regardless of fatigue or suffering. Many are inspired by his dedication and hard work.
Recently Ankit Patra qualified to participate in the championship stage of “Yonex Sunrise All India Sub Junior Ranking Tournament 2026”. This success is a matter of great pride not only for Ankit but also for Bankura district. Ankit has proved that big dreams can be achieved with hard work and confidence despite limited opportunities. His family, coaches and people of the area hope that he will achieve success on a bigger stage in the coming days.
