This is a treatment in which first a little blood is taken from the patient. Then the plasma is separated by centrifuging that blood in a machine and the same plasma is injected into the bald spot on the head. Actually, our platelets contain growth factors, which help in activating the hair roots. This provides relief from hair fall and hair growth starts again.

Can hair grow on bald head with PRP?

Doctor Sharma said that PRP treatment increases blood circulation in the hair roots and reactivates the weakened hair follicles. This slows down hair fall and helps in growing new hair. PRP treatment is considered most beneficial for those people who have early stage hair fall or thinning problem. It works better in the early stages of androgenetic alopecia. PRP has been shown to improve hair thickness and growth in people who still have active hair follicles in their scalp. This treatment is less effective in completely bald areas.

How many injections are required?

The doctor told that usually 3 to 6 sessions of PRP treatment are required to avoid baldness. In simple language, one injection of PRP is given every month. Many people are given this treatment for 3 months. If baldness is severe, this injection is given every month continuously for 6 months. This is considered a non-surgical and safe procedure. In this the patient’s own blood is used. However, slight swelling, pain or redness may occur for some time. A PRP session costs Rs 3000 to Rs 10 thousand. Doctors advise that along with PRP, proper diet, stress control and hair care routine is also important.
