West Indies qualified for the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 after defeating Nepal by 9 wickets in Mumbai on Sunday, February 15. Nepal raised expectations with a great fight against England in the opening match. But their dream was broken due to successive defeats.

In the T20 World Cup, first defeats against England and Italy and now against Windies. Nepal’s World Cup campaign is virtually over. Three defeats in three have sealed their exit with one match remaining against Scotland.

West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and decided to bowl first. That decision proved correct from the start. The bowlers dismantled Nepal’s top order. After being 23/4 in 6.3 overs, Dipendra Singh Airey tried to settle the innings, but did not get much support from the other end.

A 54-run seventh-wicket stand between Dipendra and Sompal Kami helped Nepal cross the 100-run mark. In the end they scored 133 runs for 8 wickets. Dipendra scored 58 runs off 47 balls. And Sompal remained unbeaten on 26 runs off 15 balls. His strike rate was 173.33.

Pace trio Matthew Ford (1), Jason Holder (4) and Shamar Joseph (1) gave a big blow for West Indies. Besides, Akil Hossain and Roston Chase took one wicket each.
