ICC has developed some interesting rules for knockout matches, so that the match can be completed under any circumstances. According to this rule, if plan A fails due to any reason, then plan B will be implemented.

According to Plan B, cricket fans can watch two blockbuster semi-final matches on the same day. That day is March 5. Now let’s find out how March 5 can turn out to be a special day for the visitors between the rain barrier and the ‘reserve day’ equation.

In fact, the first semi-final is scheduled to be held on March 4. If it gets washed away due to rain, then the match will be moved on reserve day i.e. March 5. The second semi-final between India and England on March 5 is already scheduled. If that too is abandoned due to rain, it will be held on the next day i.e. March 6 as Reserve Day. However, if the second semi-final is not canceled due to rain, the two semi-finals will be held on the same day on March 5, albeit at different times.

Let’s say, what if both the semi-finals cannot be completed even on Reserve Day? Who will get the ticket to the final? Firstly, the ICC will try its best to ensure that the two teams play at least 5 overs to decide the outcome of the match. But if it is not possible on the match day and reserve day as well, then the team that topped their group in the group stage (Super 8) will be declared the winner and sent to the final. In this scenario, South Africa and England will play the final, and India and New Zealand’s campaign will be over.
