Mumbai: The first match of this year’s IPL has been organized at Chinnaswamy Stadium, the ground of the last IPL champion Royal Challengers Bangalore. According to rules, this year’s final (IPL Playoff 2026) was also organized in that field. However, the venue for the IPL playoffs has not been announced initially. Finally, the play-off venues have been announced by the BCCI. While last time finalists Punjab Kings had several matches in New Mullanpur, it was announced that the final would not be held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, but for the fourth time in five years at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

But why was the IPL final moved from Chinnaswamy Stadium? In that regard, the BCCI issued a statement saying, ‘Due to some operational and logistical issues, under special circumstances this season IPL The 2026 play-offs will be held at three different venues.

BCCI’s statement further informed, ‘Bangalore was initially supposed to host the IPL final. However, certain exceptions were demanded by the officials and the board which were against the BCCI’s prescribed guidelines and rules, hence the decision was taken to change the venue.’

The first qualifier will be played on May 26 at Dharamsala. The eliminator match will be held in Mullanpur the next day. Qualifier 2 will be played at the same venue on May 29. After that two days later the mega final of IPL will be held in Ahmedabad on May 31.

According to the rules, the IPL final is organized at the ground of the last winning team. However, this is not the first time that the final match has been organized in Ahmedabad by changing this rule. Even though the IPL final was scheduled to be held at Eden Gardens last year, the IPL final was shifted due to the possibility of Kalbaisakhi due to the environment. This time, many people think that the IPL final was shifted mainly because of the problem with ticket distribution.

Ahead of the start of the IPL, Karnataka MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar demanded that VIPs should not stand in ticket queues like ordinary people. Instead he demanded five tickets for each MLA. Later, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Sivakumar said MPs and MLAs will be given three tickets each. Perhaps because of this rule, the IPL final is simpler from Bangalore.
