Raina: From a remote village, Soumen of East Burdwan took a step closer to the dream stage of many cricket lovers in India today. The cricket world is going to shake with the ball in its hand even though it has to spend many days without food. He has been called as a net bowler of Rajasthan Royals, he will be joining from 16th. But his target is India team jersey. And this son’s success brought tears to the mother’s eyes.
Soumene Chatterjee is a resident of Basha village in Palashan area of Raina in East Burdwan district. His dream was to become a cricketer since he was a child. His father was a farmer and worshiper, his mother was a housewife, she spent many days without food, but financial constraints could not stand in the way of fulfilling her dream. His family is standing by his side in fulfilling this dream. So, even from a remote village, he has made it to Rajasthan Royals through his own hard work. He grew up in Basha village.
His practice started with tennis balls in the village as a child. Later Saumen moved to Calcutta from Shaknara High School. Then from there he went to Delhi-Mumbai and from there he started his journey to become a professional cricketer. Soumen came to the attention of Pankaj Singh, the selector of Rajasthan Royals last year, but he did not get a chance to play because the speed of the ball was a little too high. Soumen said, this year I have come top from among the eight cities of All Over India.
“My average ball speed is 140 kmph and my selection is from there. If everything goes well, I will also play IPL, but in the future, my goal is the jersey of Team India.” Tears in the eyes of parents. They said, “The boy has reached this place with great difficulty, I want him to be able to move forward in this way in the future.”
The blood-drenched efforts of Soumen and his parents are mixed at every turn of this long journey from Basha village to Rajasthan Royals net bowler. Soumen bowled poverty out at the crease today. Soumen’s journey will inspire many cricketing youngsters in remote villages.
