Tips To Stay Hydrated During Roza Fast: Crores of people keep fast during the holy month of Ramadan. It is related to people’s faith. Fasting during Roza is not easy. Staying without drinking water for a long period can be challenging for the body. Therefore, it becomes important to consume right drinks during Sehri i.e. morning meal. Experts believe that in the morning during Sehri, people should consume such things which keep the body hydrated throughout the day, maintain electrolyte balance and provide energy. Just drinking more water is not the solution, but proper nutrition and fluid balance is also important.

Dietician Kamini Sinha of Manas Hospital, Noida told News18. That people must drink 1-2 glasses of plain water in the morning. Our body gets dehydrated by sleeping overnight. In such a situation, it is very important to drink water after waking up in the morning. Instead of drinking a large amount of water all at once, one should drink water little by little. Drink 2 to 3 glasses of water slowly during Sehri. Along with this, coconut water is a great option, as it contains natural electrolytes like potassium and sodium, which help maintain fluid balance in the body. This can reduce the chances of dehydration throughout the day.

Dietician told that if you eat smoothie made of milk or low-fat curd during Sehri, you will feel less thirsty throughout the day and will get plenty of energy. Milk contains protein and natural sugar, which provides energy gradually. The probiotics present in curd improve digestion and help in keeping the stomach feeling full for a longer period. You can add banana, dates or soaked chia seeds to it. Chia seeds absorb water and form a gel, due to which moisture remains in the body for a long time. However, excessively sweet drinks should be avoided, because excess sugar can increase thirst.

According to experts, drinking lemon water or plain lassi is beneficial to stay hydrated throughout the day. However, the amount of sugar in it should be balanced. Lemon water mixed with light salt helps in maintaining electrolyte balance in the body. Herbal drink can also be made by adding mint or basil leaves, which cools the body. People should avoid tea or coffee during Sehri, because caffeine has a diuretic effect, due to which water gets released from the body quickly and can make one feel more thirsty.

What is being eaten during Sehri is also important. Eating too much salty, fried or spicy food can increase thirst during the day. Instead include oats, porridge, whole grains, eggs, fruits and vegetables. Water-rich fruits like watermelon, cucumber, orange give extra hydration to the body. Protein and fiber rich food releases energy slowly, which makes you feel less tired throughout the day. If you already have any disease, consult a doctor before fasting.
