London: Brendon Maccullum has stepped down from the position of England Cricket Team’s Test format coach. A few days ago, Ben Stokes decided to withdraw from international cricket during the Test series against New Zealand. This time McCullum stepped down from the position of coach of England in white dress cricket. The former Kiwi star will take charge as England’s coach only in the white ball format. It should be noted that in 2022, McCullum took over as the coach of England’s Test team. After that he brought ‘buzzball’ to the English camp.
After taking over as England coach, Stokes’ men went on to win 11 of their next 13 matches in the Test format. Before his arrival, England had won only 1 out of 17 Tests. But in recent times the England camp has been failing in Tests. The British have lost eight of the last 12 matches. Won only three matches. Apart from losing the Ashes in Australia, they also lost the Test series against the Kiwis at home. The England and Wales Cricket Board was considering moving McCullum after that.
Ben Stokes had withdrawn from the Test format a few days ago. The other two had already withdrawn from the format. He was leading the country in Test format. But he decided to withdraw from red ball cricket in the middle of the Tentbridge match against New Zealand. Stokes, who got his first chance in the England senior team in 2011, made his Test debut in the Ashes in 2013. He has been leading the country since 2022 in the Test format. But failed to lead the team to win the Test Championship. He was also looking for his form. Meanwhile, he got into a fight with a rugby player again. For which he was dropped from the eleventh. All in all, feeling the pressure, Stokes decided to step back? England and Wales Cricket Board Chairman Richard Thompson said about Ben Stokes’ retirement announcement, ‘Ben Stokes is leaving international cricket as one of England’s greatest cricketers of all time and the greatest man of this generation. Ben’s performance under pressure, his ability to constantly compete and deliver exceptional performances when needed will be remembered by millions of fans like myself.’
