Actually, belching occurs after drinking cold drink and people consider it as relief. If you also do this, then you need to be careful. According to health experts, cold drink does not provide relief from gas-acidity, because there is nothing beneficial in it. This may definitely increase the problem.
Dr. Anil Arora, Chairman of the Institute of Liver Gastroenterology and Pancreatico Biliary Sciences, Sir Gangaram Hospital, Delhi, told News18. That one should not drink cold drinks to get relief from gas and acidity. Actually, these drinks contain excessive sugar and carbon dioxide gas. Many types of acids, flavors and other chemicals are also added to it, consumption of which is not good for the stomach and liver. Consuming cold drinks for a long time can increase the problem of gas and acidity. Apart from this, it can also cause fatty liver problems.
The doctor told that acidity occurs when excess acid is produced in the stomach, which causes burning sensation in the chest or acid reflux. It can also take the form of gastroesophageal reflux disease, where stomach acid comes up into the throat. Gas problem occurs when air or gas accumulates in the stomach, causing bloating and discomfort. Both these problems are related to eating habits, stress or bad habits. Carbonation and acidic elements present in cold drinks can increase these problems instead of reducing them. Carbonated drinks create bubbles in the stomach, which can increase pressure and push acid up.
Gastroenterologists say that drinking cold drinks regularly can worsen the digestive system, increase acid level, and cause problems like gas and bloating. Sugary drinks do not help with an upset stomach, but can make many diseases worse. Experts recommend that to get relief from gas and acidity, drink plain water, herbal tea, ginger tea, low-fat milk or non-acidic juice instead of cold drinks. These dilute stomach acid and provide relief. Apart from this, improve your lifestyle, take small meals during the day and reduce stress. If the problem is severe, then consult a doctor and get checked.
