Glasgow: India’s first Commonwealth Games medal came from the Paralympics. Para-powerlifter Jhandu Kumar Bronze for the country Jhandu opened India’s medal book by winning the bronze medal in the men’s heavyweight para-powerlifting event. Jhandu Kumar’s main goal is to win a medal in the 2028 Paralympics. Before that, winning this medal from the Commonwealth Games will definitely boost Jhandur’s confidence.

Growing up in a very poor family, Jhandu used to sell potatoes and onions on the streets with his father. He is a resident of Harnaut village in Nalanda district of Bihar. He also runs e-rickshaws to support his family and play sports after Corona. In 2017, he first started his career in para-athletics (shot put and discus throw) but later focused on para-powerlifting on the advice of coaches.
