Dhatura, dear to Lord Shiva, is the enemy of pain, never eat it, but definitely massage it.
Hazaribagh: Dhatura, beloved by Lord Shiva, is found in many types in India, but most of them are poisonous. Its fruits, leaves, seeds and other parts of the plant are poisonous. Consuming it by mistake can cause rapid heart rate, vomiting, intoxication and life-threatening effects. Therefore never take it by mouth. However, in Ayurveda, after purification, its external use is considered effective in problems like bone pain, sciatica, arthritis etc. Dr. Jitendra Upadhyay, Ayurvedic physician of Patanjali Hospital located at Gola Road, Mahesh Soni Chowk, Hazaribagh, says that Dhatura is intoxicating, but the oil made from its mixture ‘eliminates’ the pain in the bones. This oil is rarely available in the market, but can be easily made at home. Massage the painful area with a little heat daily. Note that this is for external use only. Use it only after consulting a doctor, because wrong use can have toxic effects.
