This is why it is advisable to include garlic in your daily diet. Dr. Smita Srivastava (BAMS Lucknow University), medical officer in-charge of Ayush Hospital Shivgarh in Rae Bareli district, tells Local 18 that regular consumption of garlic strengthens the immune system. In the changing season, garlic is considered effective in preventing cold, cough and viral infections. The elements present in it increase the body’s ability to fight diseases. Garlic is also beneficial for heart health. It is helpful in reducing bad cholesterol (LDL) and increasing good cholesterol (HDL), which can reduce the risk of heart diseases.

Dr. Smita Srivastava says that garlic is also considered helpful in controlling blood pressure. Consumption of garlic in limited quantity can be beneficial for people suffering from high blood pressure. Garlic is also considered useful for diabetic patients, because it helps in keeping the blood sugar level balanced. Garlic also plays an important role in keeping the digestive system healthy. It helps in providing relief from gas, indigestion and other stomach problems.

How to consume

Dr. Smita says that it is most beneficial to take 1 to 2 raw garlic cloves with lukewarm water on an empty stomach. If it is difficult to eat raw garlic, then you can consume it by adding it to vegetables, lentils or soup. Some people also eat garlic mixed with honey, which is good for health. However, garlic should be consumed only in limited quantities. Eating too much garlic can cause stomach irritation, gas or indigestion. In case of any serious illness, it is better to take doctor’s advice before starting its consumption.
