Mumbai: The Indian squad for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe has been announced. The selectors left out Sanju Samson in the team that surprised. Four months after winning the T20 World Cup, after Suryakumar Yadav, Ajit Agarkar cut another cricketer from India’s champion team.
India will play a three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The matches in Harare will take place on 23, 25 and 26 July. The 15-member Indian squad for the series was selected on Monday. Notably, Sanju Samson was not kept in the team.
Why was Samson left out? Does he have any fitness issues? The Indian Cricket Board did not clarify. Whether he was rested or dropped is also not clear. A total of five changes have been made from the ongoing T20I series against England. The selectors also dropped Prasiddha Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi.
However, Shreyas Iyer has been retained as the captain despite suffering the embarrassment of losing the series to Ireland after taking over as captain. Left-handed batsman Rinku Singh and fast bowler Mayank Yadav have returned to the T20 team. Besides, wicketkeeper-batter Pravsimran Singh, fast bowler Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma and left-arm spinner all-rounder Harsh Dubey have been included in the team. This is the first time they got a chance in the T20 team.
India will play the ODI series after the T20 series against England. Shivam Dubey has been added as a replacement to the team for that series.
Samson was dropped from the starting XI in the second T20I of the ongoing England series. In that match at Old Trafford, Samson was replaced by 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Abhishek is Vaibhav. After that, Samson’s exclusion from the Zimbabwe series started.
Samson did not get a run in the T20 series against Ireland. 5 and 0 do. He scored 1 run in the rain-soaked first match against England. Then he was dropped.
Fast bowler Moynak played three T20s in 2024. However, he was out of the field due to injury. this time IPLHe played in a total of 4 matches. Now he returned to the national team.
