Mullanpur: Received a call-up to the national team as a reward for consistent good performances in the Rajasthan jersey in domestic cricket. He was also given a chance in the Test XI against Afghanistan at Mullanpur. Manav Suthar performed brilliantly in the first match keeping the trust of team management and captain and coach. He picked up 6 wickets in the first innings. He picked up another wicket in the second innings. Total 7 wickets in the entire match. Behind India’s innings and 300-run win in the match is Manavar’s brilliant spell.

Manav became the number 10 bowler who took five wickets in an innings on his Test debut. In 1988, Narendra Hirwani took five wickets in an innings on Test debut against the West Indies. His spell was 61/8. Which is till now the best spell by an Indian in Test debut. This time Manav Suthar is on the second place in that list. He took 6 wickets for 33 runs. Syed Abed Ali picked up 6 wickets for 57 runs against Australia in his debut Test in 1967. Dilip Joshi took 6 wickets for 103 runs against Australia in 1979. In 1961, Bhaman Kumar took 5 wickets for 64 runs in his debut Test.

Manav Suthar has not looked back since his debut in Rajasthan’s first-class cricket jersey in the 2021-22 season. He has taken 129 wickets in 29 matches. Manav has even set the precedent of taking 10 or more wickets in three matches. He took five wickets 6 times and four wickets eight times in an innings. 8 wickets in an innings is his best bowling performance.

After batting first in the match and getting 564 runs on the board, India declared the innings. Both Shubman Gill and KL Rahul scored centuries in the match. In response, Afghanistan were bowled out for 152 runs in the first innings. India followed up. The Afghans went down to bat again in the second innings and were dismissed for 112 runs.
