Ghaziabad incident in Uttar Pradesh. 25-year-old para-athlete Chirag Tyagi was shot dead. Chirag recently won a gold medal in the 400m race at the National Para Athletics Championship held in Bengaluru. He was also known as a talented para-athlete. But he died suddenly. (Para Athlete Murder)

Chirag called home on Wednesday morning. Uncle Rajesh informed Tyagi that he would reach home by 3.30 pm. After some time Chirag was called and could not be reached. The phone was switched off. No search results were found. The family members were worried not to find him. Filed a complaint at the police station.
Finally, Chirag’s body was recovered from Sai Kunj area of Ghaziabad on Saturday afternoon. He was shot. Wounds are found on the body. After checking the CCTV footage, the police arrested another para athlete named Yash Khatik. It is known that once Yash used to practice with Chirag. Chirag’s rival in the ‘visionless’ category was Yash.
According to the police, Chirag and Yash have been in the circle for almost a decade. He even lived in the same room with Chirag. Training was also going on together for the last five years. Chirag trusted Yash very much. During the interrogation, it was learned that Chirag had made a complaint against Yash during document verification. As a result, Yash became disqualified. It is said that Chirag was shot by Yash out of revenge. He used a pistol to fire.
DCP Dhabhal Jaiswal said this incident was due to professional jealousy. Chirag was taken to a point-blank range and shot from behind. Yash has been arrested. The police have filed a case against him. The search for the pistol used in the murder is on. It remains to be seen if anyone else was involved in the incident. The matter will be more clear when the post-mortem report comes out.
