Chirchita plant, which grows in large quantities in the Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh, is considered very important in Ayurveda. Generally people ignore it considering it to be a common grass, but from Ayurvedic point of view this plant is a useful medicine in the treatment of many serious diseases. In Ayurveda it is called Apamarg and in rural areas it is also known as Latjira or Chirchita.

Giving information to Local 18, Ayurvedic Medical Officer Dr. Vipin Singh said that this plant is considered very beneficial for human life as well as for animals. This plant grows easily in the fields and surrounding areas along with grass, especially during the rainy season. If it is used properly, it proves effective in the treatment of many diseases. In Ayurveda it is used to strengthen the digestive system, purify blood and treat many types of diseases.

Chirchita ash is used in diarrhea and asthma
Dr. Vipin Singh told that Chirchita ash is used in diseases like diarrhea and asthma. Its nature is alkaline, due to which it helps in removing many types of disorders in the body. It is also mentioned in Ayurveda that this medicine can be beneficial in lung related diseases like TB and cancer.

Benefits of brushing teeth with a branch of Apamarg explained
Dr. Vipin Singh said that Apamarg has been given special importance in Vastu and traditional beliefs also. It is believed that by biting the teeth with a branch of Red Apamarg one gets the power of speech, that is, one gets the power to fulfill one’s wishes. It is also said that by ritually worshiping its root and tying it on the hand on the full moon day of Aghaan month, one gets relief from many problems of life.

This plant is also used in animal diseases
Dr. Vipin Singh told that from medicinal point of view, this plant is considered useful in many problems like skin diseases, boils, swelling, arthritis, mouth ulcers, loss of appetite, eye diseases, stopping bleeding, wounds, itching, cough, fever, stomach diseases, piles and leprosy. Not only this, it is also used traditionally in case of injury or swelling in animals, which is considered quite effective.

Although doctors say that Apamarg is useful in many diseases, but it should be used only after consulting a specialist. In any disease, its quantity and method of use is decided by the Ayurveda doctor according to the age and condition of the person, hence its use should be avoided without consultation.
