Kabul: He is a big name in international cricket at the moment. Rashid Khan’s contribution to the rise of Afghanistan cricket is undeniable. But this Rashid Khan was not offered to play for India. Even Indian citizenship will be given to him, not that he was offered. The Afghan star’s self-penned book ‘Rashid Khan: From Streets to Stardom’ will be released today. There, the Afghan star opened up about the Indian citizenship.
Rashid Khan came to play on the IPL stage for the first time in 2018. He used to play in Sunrisers Hyderabad jersey. Since then, the Afghan leg-spinner has made a place in the hearts of Indian fans. Rashid wrote in his book, “A senior person associated with Indian cricket told me to take Indian citizenship. He met me and said that in the current situation of your country, I don’t think you will get a chance to represent the country in the future. Because there may not be conditions like playing cricket. If we get you as an Indian citizen you can represent the Indian cricket team. If you apply for citizenship, we will do the rest.” Rashid also wrote, “I smiled and thanked him but I respected him and told him very politely that I am still playing cricket for Afghanistan. If I can’t play in the future, maybe I won’t play cricket but I don’t want to be separated from the motherland.”
Rashid mentioned in his autobiography that many people requested him to take citizenship not even on Australian soil. But the Afghan star did not write much about it. It should be noted that at the moment Gujarat is for Titans IPL Rashid is busy playing.
