Traditional food Kachori: This dish is famous as Chimanlal’s Kachori in the area. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee himself was a fan of it.
Calcutta: Those whose mind is full on Sunday morning must have tasted different places. Various delicious kachuris are available outside of Kolkata. For example, Chimanlal’s shop in Panipat, Haryana. No, you don’t have to come this far to eat kachuri. But if you come to visit Haryana, you can try it once. This dish is famous in the area as Chimanlal’s Kachuri. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee himself was a fan of it.
Residents of the area claim that this shop is about 200 years old. Chiman Lal sweet shop at Halwai Hat near the historical fort of Panipat. Actually Chimanlal’s grandfather started the first business. Since then that shop has been running for generations. The ninth generation is now running the shop, people say.
After becoming Prime Minister in 2001, Atal Bihari Vajpayee went to attend a function at the Panipat Correctional Facility. The applause in the theater after his speech seemed less than Vajpayee’s. He jokingly asked, did the audience not eat Chimanlal’s kachuri? Later, kachuri was brought from Chimanlal’s shop for the occasion.
Atal Bihari loved to eat vegetarian food. Chimanlal Kachuri is made without onion, garlic. When he was in politics, he often did not have time to eat at home. At that time this Chimanlal’s kachuri satisfied his taste buds. So later, whenever Atal Bihari Vajpayee came to Panipat, he used to eat chiman’s kachuri.
The nearly 200-year-old shop is still functioning today. But according to the rule of time, there has been sharing of partners. There are two shops called ‘Chimanlal Kachori’ in Halwai Hata near the fort. But the taste of both shops is almost same. One of its shops is run by Nitin Bansal of the present generation. Nitin Bansal said, ‘I have passed B.Com. But I want to take my family business forward.’
