London: Australia set a record in women’s cricket in the T20 format. Australia won the 2026 T20 World Cup title by defeating England by 7 wickets in the final at London’s historic Lord’s ground. This is the 7th T20 World Cup title for Australia Women’s team. On the other hand, England’s dream of winning a second title was dashed once again.
In this match, Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, England scored 150 runs losing 4 wickets in 20 overs. Australia won by losing just 3 wickets in 17.1 overs. This is the biggest successful run chase win in a Women’s T20 World Cup final. Beth Mooney played the biggest innings of 64 runs for the team hitting 10 fours off 49 balls.
For England, captain Nat Sciver-Brant played an innings of 58 runs off 53 balls with 5 fours. Besides, Freya Kemp played an unbeaten innings of 44 runs. The rest of the batsmen failed to make any major contribution, leading to a halt of 150-all with the score almost reaching 170. Kim Garth, Lucy Hamilton, Annabel Sutherland and captain Sophie Molyneux took 1 wicket each for Australia.
Australia’s surprise in the run chase
Australia did not get off to a good start chasing runs. Ajira lost the team’s first wicket for just 17 runs in the second over. Georgia Vol returned to the pavilion with just 9 runs.
Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield then put on a 67-ball 100 for the second wicket. The pair tipped the margin of victory heavily in Australia’s favor. The team’s second wicket of 117 fell to Lichfield, who scored 48 off 35 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Beth Mooney and Elise Perry then put on 23 runs off 18 balls for the third wicket. The team’s third wicket fell in the form of Beth Mooney for 140 runs in the 16th over. Elise Perry and Ashley Gardner then made an unbreakable partnership of 13 runs off 7 balls for the fourth wicket to bring the team to the threshold of victory.
