Dubai: ICC has taken a big decision regarding the World Test Championship. The date and venue for the 2027 World Test Championship final have been finalised.

The final match will be played at The Oval in London next year. Earlier the 2023 final was also played at this ground. Australia won the World Test Championship by defeating India in the final. The ICC said that the WTC 2025-27 final match will be played from June 9 to June 13.

Last year, the International Cricket Council announced that the next 3 World Test Championship finals will be played in England. This means the 2027, 2029 and then 2031 finals will also be played in England. It is to be noted that before this three final matches were organized by England.

The last time the World Test Championship final was played on the historic grounds of The Oval, Australia and India battled it out for the title. Australia won that match by a huge margin of 209 runs. On the other hand, the Indian team lost two consecutive WTC finals after 2023 – 2021.

WTC Points Table

The teams that will face each other in the 2027 World Test Championship final are yet to be finalised. So far Australia are leading by a huge margin and the Baggy Greens are expected to play their second WTC final.

South Africa won the last World Test Championship. This time again South Africa and New Zealand are second and third respectively in the points table and they are also in a good position to reach the final. The path to the finals looks a little tougher for other teams including India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The situation is worrisome especially for Team India in the final games of 2021 and 2023. They must not lose any of the next Test matches to secure a ticket to the finals. India is currently placed fifth in the points table.
