On Sunday, the CAB issued a statement dismissing the allegation of the Midnipur District Sports Association Secretary as misleading. Sanjit Tarai had alleged that he had submitted the form bearing his name as a representative of the Midnipur District Sports Association before the annual general meeting of the CAB last time. But the head clerk of CAB refused to take it. Sanjit told ABP Live Bangla, ‘After that we had another meeting. Sujoy Hazra said there, the then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Sujoy will go to CAB AGM as a representative of Medinipur District Sports Association, not me. I am forced to come back.’

In its reply statement, the CAB said on Sunday, Sanjit Tarai’s allegation distorted the facts. He gave a false description. The state cricket governing body has said in a statement that the selection process of CAB is transparent and free from politics. It is said that Sanjit Tarai sent his representation and nomination form to the AGM through a representative. However, in the meeting of the Executive Committee of Midnipur District Sports Association, he was nominated and sent to the CAB AGM, there was no binding letter of commitment. They are scrutinized by the CAB before being submitted to the Electoral Officer. CAB also said in the statement that Sanjit Tarai was informed about the lack of affidavit. The statement read, then on September 9, Medinipur District Sports Association submitted all necessary documents in Appendix A. Sujoy Hazra’s name was sent there as a representative. CAB said Sujoy Hazra was included in the previous form by using Whitener. It is claimed that Sanjit Tarai signed and sealed there.

The governing body of Bengal Cricket claimed that whom the Midnipur District Sports Association will send as a representative is entirely up to them and CAB does not interfere in it. It has also been informed that Sujoy Hazrai was the representative of Medinipur District Sports Association in 2024 as well. CAB countered that Tarai’s behavior was ‘irresponsible’ and a deliberate attempt to ‘tarnish’ the image of the organisation. Sourav Gangopadhyay’s CAB administration has also warned that legal action will be taken in this regard.
