Mullanpur: In terms of annual income, Indian cricketers are far ahead of most of the players in the world. The Indian Cricket Board has divided the cricketers into 3 categories and the players are paid annually accordingly. Test matches are played over a much longer period than ODIs and T20Is. The match lasted for five days.
The question on the minds of many cricket lovers is, do the players get paid more for playing a Test match? How much do Team India players earn from a Test match?
How much money to play a test match?
Indian players get a match fee of Rs 15 lakh for playing a Test match. That is 3 lakh rupees daily. This amount is separate from their annual salary from BCCI. Among the players on BCCI’s Central Contract List, Grade A cricketers earn Rs 5 crore per annum, Grade B cricketers Rs 3 crore per annum and Grade C cricketers Rs 1 crore per annum. Besides, get a match fee of Rs 15 lakh for every test match. Players also get incentives.
Incentives are available separately
In March 2024, the BCCI introduced a new incentive scheme in Test cricket. The board took this decision to attract young players to red ball cricket. This incentive is given to the players based on the number of matches played throughout the year.
Let’s say a Test player plays more than 50 percent of the Test matches in a season, then the player who is in the first eleven will get an incentive of Rs. 30 lakh, on the other hand, if the player is out of the playing eleven but is part of the team in more than 50 percent of the matches, then he will get an incentive of Rs. 15 lakh.
If a player plays more than 75 percent of Test matches in a season, the playing eleven players will get an incentive of Rs.45 lakh and non-playing eleven players will get Rs.22 lakh and 50 thousand. Let’s say a player plays 10 test matches in a season, then he earns more than 2 crore rupees.
