Sandeep Sarkar, Kolkata: Promotion is considered a condition of any job if you perform well. But at the beginning of that thought, the thought of axing has started in CAB, the governing body of Bengal cricket!
According to CAB sources, Bengal’s most successful coach in men’s cricket in recent times, Saurasish Lahiri (Saurasish Lahiri) may not be kept on the coaching panel of any team – Senior, U-23, U-19 or U-16 in the coming season. Who will be the coach of the team is not yet final. However, after the interview phase, a list is initially prepared. The news is that there is no name of Saurashis.
As soon as this is known, there is an atmosphere of surprise in the field. Sourashis, who recently arrived as a coach at the Indian Cricket Board’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru alongside VVS Laxman-Wasim Zafar, could hardly believe that he would be overlooked by the state cricket body.
If the news of the initial list of CAB did not reach the ears of Sourashis, it must also be believed that Iran has never had a war with America-Israel. The Berlin Wall is still intact. Nor, has there been a political shift in West Bengal. How hurt Sourashis is by this neglect, the former offspinner’s social media post gives a glimpse of it. Sourashis wrote, ‘Some mistake my silence and patience for weakness. They forget that the most terrible storms arise from silence. I may be calm, but with my back against the wall I can turn into a wildfire that won’t even give you a chance to be warned before it destroys everything.’ A large part of the CAB feels that the anger is justified.
The record book says that Sourashis was the coach of Bengal’s senior team for three years. During his tenure, Bengal played Ranji final once and semi-final once. Sourashis was in charge of the under-23 team for 3 years. During that time Bengal played in 3 finals and won the national one day tournament. During his 2 years as the coach of the U19 team, Bengal played once in the final and once in the semi-final. Apart from this, Sourashis was the coach of Eastern team in Duleep Trophy and India D team in Under 19 Challengers. His track record as a coach is also better than those who are in the race to coach different age groups of Bengal.
However, CAB is not initially thinking of him as a coach in any Bengal team in the upcoming season. Laxmirathan Shukla has been considered as the coach of the senior team. CAB has not announced yet, but state BJP MLAs and ministers Dilip Ghosh Posted on social media congratulating Lakshmi Ratan for becoming the coach of Bengal’s senior team on Tuesday afternoon!
A three-member committee consisting of Arun Lal, Kalyan Chowdhury and Devang Gandhi was formed to interview candidates for the post of Bengal coach. They interviewed various candidates and recommended the names of Laxmiratan Shukla as the coach of the senior team, Wriddhiman Saha as the coach of the U-23 team, Manoj Tiwari as the coach of the U-19 team and Anushtup Majumder as the coach of the U-16 team. In addition, Sean from Australia TateMumbai’s Surendra Bhave reported that former Bengal pacer Sabir Ali is being considered as the assistant coach. The news was first written by ABP Live Bangla. But the name of Saurashis is not heard anywhere. Part of the CAB is surprised to hear that.
Why Saurashis bratya? All sensational arguments are heard in CAB. For example, the three-member committee did not like Sourashis’ presentation during the interview phase. It was heard, however, that Sourashis himself wanted to give a sophisticated presentation. But the Chief Executive Officer of CAB told him that no arrangement has been made for the presentation on the projector or screen. So what is the presentation and why is it disliked? No answer.
It is said that Sanjeev Sanyal, the coaching support staff, had a grudge against Saurashis when he was the coach of the Under-19 team. However, it was found that the conflict between the support staff and Sourashis was about a cricketer. The cricketer who was coached by Sanjeev on a personal level. Allegedly, Sanjeev wanted to take that cricketer with the Bengal team. Despite not being in the team. It was said that otherwise the cricketer will be upset. Sanjeev filed a complaint against Saurashis for protesting against him. Everyone on the field knows that the cricketer is also influential.
Saurashis doesn’t say anything. Tried to contact him about it but he did not respond. However, it was heard that he said in close circles that he felt humiliated in the whole incident. Fear of some, he broke the silence and made a statement. It will increase the discomfort of CAB!
According to reliable sources, CAB president Sourav Gangopadhyay himself has started damage control after sensing the anger of Sourashis. He himself sent a message to Saurashis. Along with that, the new cricket boss of Maidan, who is now known to be close to Sourav, Surjit Lahiri, a member of the Apex Council of CAB, tried to mediate by phone. Sourashis is said to be thinking of using him in some other way. That said, the coaching panel is still not final. He may be included. It has also been said that the whole thing is thought of permutation-combination. Although performance or permutation-combination is more important in Bengal’s coach selection, the new boss could not give an answer.
Maidan waits to see what happens next in the drama about the coach. Maybe Sourashis is also waiting for the final list to be published. Then…
