New Delhi: There is no father’s shadow over the head. Financial hardship at home. Meanwhile, we are fighting to fulfill our dreams. Can’t afford to buy any expensive sports equipment either. G Sindhushree set a national record in women’s pole vault against all odds. The young vaulter participated in the National Inter-State Championship held in Bhubaneswar. Sindhushree qualified for the Asian Games with a record average. And this young woman from Karnataka remembers her father in record time. Sindhushree’s father passed away due to heart attack. He has been fighting to fulfill his father’s dream since 2022. Sindhushree remembers her father very much on special days. He was talking with his father’s passport size photo while taking the picture. The emotion in the throat…

Sindhushree says, ‘It was my father’s dream to see me represent India at the international level. Everything I have done today is for my father. But it feels bad that today when I have fulfilled that dream, Dad is not here to see it. He died of heart attack in 2022. Every morning he would get up and take me out for a run. He wanted to see me represent the country on the international stage. I am going to fulfill my father’s dream as soon as I represent him at the Asiam Games.’

It may be noted that by crossing the height of 4.25 meters, Sindhsree broke the previous national record of 4.20 meters set by Tamil Nadu athlete Baranika Elangovan a month ago. He further said, ‘I qualified for the World University Games. But my father was not there to see it. I am the first in our family to play sports. Other family members did not want to send a girl to sports. My father opposed all of them, and that’s why I joined SAI Hostel in Bangalore in 2016. Since then, my sports career started.’
