Glasgow: India’s first gold in Commonwealth Games 2026. Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal in the event. Mirabai won gold in women’s 49 kg category. Earlier Mirabai won silver in Tokyo Olympics. Chanu became the second Indian weightlifter after Karnam Moleswari to win a medal at the Olympics. He narrowly missed out on a medal at the Paris Olympics. She finished fourth in the women’s 49 kg category. However, Mirabai Chanu was the only claimant to win gold in the Commonwealth. He fulfilled that goal.
Earlier Mirabai had won gold in Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022. Won gold at Gold Coast 2018. He also won silver at the 2022 World Championships. Mirabai finished fourth in the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. This is the first time Mirabai has won gold at the Commonwealth Games. India’s woman Bharattolok cried after winning the medal.

Bihar’s 28-year-old para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar on Friday clinched the bronze medal in the men’s heavyweight category with 130.9 points. He has successfully lifted 181 kg and 190 kg, although his last attempt at 196 kg was unsuccessful. This weight could have changed the color of his medal.
Jhandu Kumar said, “It’s so happy that I haven’t slept since last night. I can’t sleep even if I lie down. I wanted to confirm the starting weight because if I failed in that, the confidence would have been shattered. The second weight was to ensure a medal and the third was to win gold (gold). I didn’t win the gold due to technical errors and hurried breathing.”
India won its second medal at the Commonwealth Games. Bharattolok Chanambam Rishikant Singh won the silver medal from the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Rishikant won this medal in men’s 60 kg category. His total lifted weight is 264 kg. He lifted 121 kg in the snatch and 143 kg in the clean and jerk category. Rishikant created a new record in the history of Commonwealth Games by lifting 121 kg in snatch. Malaysia’s Mohammad Anik bin Kasdan won gold with a total of 273kg and Kenya’s Joshua Amunga Mboya won the bronze medal with 260kg.
