London: Brendon McCullum has stepped down as the coach of England’s Test team. Is a legend of Indian cricket going to take charge in his place?
Rahul Dravid is in the running to become the new coach of England’s Test team, according to sources. Whether Dravid will eventually coach Joe Roots will have to wait for a few more days. However, it is known that he is leading in the race to become a coach.
The England Cricket Board is on the hunt for a new coach after Brendon McCullum stepped down as Test team coach. Meanwhile, a report by the famous British daily The Telegraph claims that Rahul Dravid’s name is also among the possible candidates, whose names are being seriously considered. He is also being discussed with experienced names like Andy Flower and Richard Dawson.
According to reports, Dravid is considered as one of the favorite candidates due to his long coaching experience and skill in preparing players. Under his supervision, India played the final of the 2023 World Test Championship. Then the team also won the 2024 T20 World Cup. He has also played a major role in promoting young players in Indian cricket.
However, the report also states that Rahul Dravid is not interested in coaching full time for now. It is thought that if he gets a role that allows him to spend more time with his family, he may consider it. This is why the England Cricket Board can take a decision keeping in mind his preferences.
Apart from Rahul Dravid, Andy Flower is also considered as a contender. Flower was previously England’s Test coach and during his tenure the team reached number one in the Test rankings. Also names like Richard Dawson, Mike Hesson, Kumar Sangakkara, Andrew Flintoff and Justin Langer are also said to be in the discussion.
Now all eyes are on the next decision of the England Cricket Board. If Rahul Dravid takes over, it will be considered one of the biggest surprises in international cricket.
